Are you in a slump with your New Years Resolution to lose 50 pounds in 60 seconds? Or disappointed you’re not the pinterest woman you thought you’d be when you grew up? I’ve got some news for you… life is a lot more fun when you lower the bar.
That’s right. Lower the damn bar.
So you didn’t get 6 pack abs by your 9 month post partum goal date. You don’t have the energy to send your kids off to school with homemade muffin’s warm out of the oven. And you’re not making your own organic baby food… how dare you.
Why do we do this to ourselves? Who do we think we are?
Lower the mother f-ing bar.
I’m serious. We hear all the time people say “women are too hard on themselves” and you nod your head in agreement. But do we listen? Listen up! WOMEN ARE TOO HARD ON THEMSELVES.
LOWER THE BAR.
This is the advice I give to people who came to my fitness class for the first time. They are intimidated, they want to leave, and they don’t know how they’re ever going to make this a habit. Confidence is at risk, no doubt.
But what you need to know is: You don’t have to do it well. You don’t have to do it every day. You don’t have to do it until it hurts. You honestly don’t even need to work that hard. You just need to keep going. Make a friend. Smile. But most importantly…
LOWER THE DAMN BAR.
Think about it. I apply this advise to my life as a new mom all the mother f-ing time. I envisioned myself always making my own baby food from scratch #Nope. Never throwing my baby at my husband the second he walks in the door #Nope. Breastfeeding until he was 12 months old #Nope. Breastfeeding until he was 6 months old #Nope.

Sometimes I’m disappointed. That’s the truth. And on days when I feel like I’m doing everything wrong… I have to remind myself:
LIFE IS EASIER WHEN YOU LOWER THE BAR.
Repeat after me: LIFE IS EASIER WHEN YOU LOWER THE BAR.
I just need to keep going. Make a friend. Smile.
I’m doing a good job. And so are you.
